V1 Full Embedded app functional shut-off for Kyocera and Ricoh
Last updated July 2, 2026
Contents
Overview
In June 2025, we announced EOL of the V1 Ricoh and Kyocera Hive Printer Apps
To ensure our customers always have access to the most secure, efficient, and feature-rich printing environments, we are announcing the functional shut off date for our legacy V1 Kyocera and V1 Ricoh PaperCut Hive printer applications.
The functional shut off date is January 31st, 2027.
On January 31st 2027, all V1 Kyocera and Ricoh PaperCut Hive applications will cease to function, and devices running them will no longer be able to connect to the PaperCut Hive services. This means users won’t be able to authenticate or release print jobs.
To avoid any disruption to your daily printing operations, we require all customers still utilizing V1 apps to transition to our modern V2 applications well before this deadline.
Why are PaperCut shutting down the V1 services?
Security
The cybersecurity landscape has evolved drastically since the launch of our V1 applications. Legacy frameworks simply cannot defend against modern, sophisticated threats.
- Outdated Architecture: The V1 apps rely on older encryption standards and protocols that are increasingly vulnerable to exploits.
- No More Security Patches: V1 apps will no longer receive critical security updates, making any device running them past the end-of-life period a potential weak point in your network.
- Modern Compliance: Our V2 apps are built from the ground up to comply with today’s stringent global data protection and privacy regulations, ensuring your print data remains encrypted both at rest and in transit.
Enhanced Value and Performance in V2
We don’t just want your print environment to be secure; we want it to be incredibly efficient. The V2 Kyocera and Ricoh PaperCut Hive apps offer a completely overhauled user experience and powerful features that V1 simply cannot support.

How to upgrade before January 31st 2027
Upgrading to the V2 apps is straightforward, however PaperCut recommend working with your PaperCut Authorised Partner for assistance. Please schedule your upgrade well before January 31st to prevent an unexpected loss of printing capabilities.
Upgrading Kyocera
Upgrading “over the top” from v1.0.9 or older to v2.x.x with one-click or manual install is not possible and causes a device error. Uninstalling v1.0.x, rebooting the device, and reinstalling, either with one-click or manually linking resolves the issue. When upgrading from v1.x.x to 2.x.x, please follow these steps:
- On a computer, log in to the PaperCut Hive admin console.
- Go to Printers, then select the device. The details panel is displayed.
- Select Apps. The full embedded app details are displayed.
- Select Uninstall and follow the prompts to uninstall and remove the app. Remain on this screen for step 6.
- Reboot the device.
- When the device has finished rebooting, in the PaperCut Hive admin console select One Click to install 2.x.x
