Introduction to the Brother BSI Embedded Application

PaperCut MF version 26.0.5 introduces two new Embedded applications for Brother BSI-compatible devices and initiates the End of Life (EOL) timeline for the original Brother embedded application (renamed Brother Legacy).

These modernized applications align the Brother user experience and licensing structure with standard MFD and SFP models across other major manufacturer brands.

New License Types

1. Brother BSI Full Embedded: Priced as a standard Full Embedded MFD license (aligned with other MFD brands).
2. Brother BSI Printer Only: Priced as a Single Function Printer (SFP) license.

Options for Existing Brother Customers

• Maintain Brother Legacy Embed: As per our Device Type EOL Policy, PaperCut provides a minimum of 6 months advance notice for any device type end of life. You may continue using the legacy embed during its EOL notice period using your existing licence or when converting to the new Brother BSI SFP Licenses
  • Please note that support for the Brother Legacy embedded application may be removed entirely at any time post the EOL notice period from a maintenance or Major PaperCut MF release.
• Convert to Brother BSI SFP Licenses (No Cost): Convert existing legacy entitlements to Brother BSI Printer Only licenses at no charge
  • Licensing Constraint: SFP licenses do not support Copy Tracking. Assigning an SFP license to a Multi-Function Printer (MFP) will trigger persistent licensing errors in the PaperCut MF administration interface.
• Upgrade to Brother BSI Full Embedded Licenses: Upgrade legacy licenses to Brother BSI Full Embedded to retain Copy Tracking and unlock Integrated Scanning features.

• Multi-Function Printers (MFPs): Contact an Authorized Reseller to purchase Brother BSI Full Embedded licenses.
• Single-Function Printers (SFPs): Contact an Authorized Reseller to purchase Brother BSI Printer Only licenses.
