If you’re having problems of any nature, often the PaperCut system logs can assist with diagnosis. Log error messages often given an indication of:

  • The type of error,
  • suggestions on what might be causing the error,
  • and in some cases even recommend a solution.

Taking some time to check system event logs may help you pinpoint and resolve a problem. The following logs should be checked:

Within the PaperCut NG and MF admin interface:

Log in as an admin (e.g. with the local admin account) and check under Logs > Application Log. On older versions this may be under App. Log > Application Event Log.

On the Application Server (or Print Server) file system:

(open these in a text editor such as Notepad)

[app-path]/providers/print/<platform>/print-provider.log

(e.g. C:\Program Files (x86)\PaperCut MF\providers\print\win\print-provider.log)

[app-path]/server/logs/server.log

(e.g. C:\Program Files (x86)\PaperCut MF\server\logs\server.log*)

[app-path]/server/logs/service.log - Windows and Linux
[app-path]/server/logs/server-out.log - macOS

(e.g. C:\Program Files (x86)\PaperCut MF\server\logs\service.log)

For release station errors:

[users-home-directory]/pc-release.log

(e.g. C:\Documents and Settings\user1)
