What are copy restrictions?
Previously known as Copy Control during Percolator, or ‘Zero-Stop’ in PaperCut MF, copy restrictions are when PaperCut Hive will prevent a user from continuing a copy job if they run out of balance.

How to enable copy restrictions?
For Copy Control to be ‘active’ on your printer, you will need to:
- In Reduce Waste > Cost Tracking, set up a cost profile for your printer.
- (Optional) In Reduce Waste > Cost Tracking > Settings > Notify users of balance and costs per page for device native jobs, select whether or not you want your users to review their current balance (and estimated available copy pages) before commencing a copy job.
- Give your users a balance and set them to restricted .
- There may be changes required on the MFD, see below
OEM requirements for copy restrictions to be enabled
Copy restrictions were enabled for all Organizations on October 30th, 2025. If your device was embedded before this date, then please check below to see if any action needs to be taken for copy restrictions to be enabled on your devices.
Canon
For copy restrictions to be enabled, please install the latest version of the Canon Embedded Application. A minimum of 1.3.0 must be installed.
Fujifilm
No changes are required, Fujifilm devices will work with copy restrictions immediately.
HP
Full Embedded Application must be re-installed to enable copy restrictions. Please perform the re-install option in the PaperCut Hive Admin UI to enable PaperCut Hive to apply balances and restrictions to copy jobs. Please go to Printers > Select the required printer > Apps > Re-install
Kyocera
For copy restrictions to be enabled, please install the latest version of the Kyocera Embedded Application. A minimum of 2.0.6 must be installed.
Ricoh
For copy restrictions to be enabled, please install the latest version of the Ricoh Embedded Application. A minimum of 2.0.3 must be installed.
Sharp
No changes are required, Sharp devices will work with copy restrictions immediately.
Toshiba
For copy restrictions to be enabled on Toshiba devices, a Toshiba Technician will be required to update 2 additional service codes. These codes are available in the latest PaperCut Hive Embedded manual for Toshiba.
Xerox
Full Embedded Application must be re-installed to enable copy restrictions. Please perform the re-install option in the PaperCut Hive Admin UI to enable PaperCut Hive to apply balances and restrictions to copy jobs. Please go to Printers > Select the required printer > Apps > Re-install
