PaperCut Views - the final page

THE PAGE APPLIES TO:

Last updated November 5, 2025

PaperCut Views launched in September 2016 as a free, cloud-hosted analytics tool that helped individuals and organizations understand their printing and toner usage.

All things come to an end though, and PaperCut Views will reach End of Life (EOL) on December 31, 2025. Its retirement is part of our ongoing effort to innovate and bring our offerings together under one roof.

The lessons we learned from this early cloud-hosted software live on in our latest products — PaperCut Pocket and PaperCut Hive.

After this year, the service will no longer be available. We strongly encourage anyone still using PaperCut Views to download their data and explore our newer platforms before the final cutoff. Moving to Pocket gives you a future-proof solution that’s robust, secure, and always evolving with new features.

Export print job data from PaperCut Views

Before December 31, 2025, you can download your historical print data from PaperCut Views.

The Recent Print Jobs history includes details such as time, user, page count, filename, device, page size, copy count, type (for example, Duplex), and format.

How to export your print job history:

  1. Log in to your PaperCut Views Dashboard.
  2. Next to the Recent Print Jobs list click Export.
  3. A CSV file containing your print job data will download automatically.

Migrating to PaperCut Pocket

Moving from PaperCut Views to PaperCut Pocket is a major upgrade from simple monitoring to modern, cloud-based print management. PaperCut Pocket is a subscription-based, cloud-hosted solution that you can with a fully featured 40-day free trial. There’s no need for servers or complex setup—just install the Pocket app on your devices.

Can Pocket alert me about low toner?

Yes! You can set up automatic email notifications to let you (or anyone you choose) know when toner runs low. You can easily configure the alert level—just drag a slider to choose when you want to be notified, such as when toner drops to a certain percentage. All you need to do is enter the email addresses for the people who should receive these alerts, and Pocket will handle the rest. See: Configure low toner alerts.

What does setup look like?

If you’re coming from PaperCut Views and are mainly interested in passive print tracking—without secure print release or mobile app workflows—PaperCut Pocket can be set up to support this need.

To do this, you’ll need to enable direct print tracking in the admin console. Here’s what setup looks like:

  • Install the PaperCut Pocket app on your computer and printer discovery happens automatically in the background.

  • Enable print tracking for direct printing in the admin console by toggling on the “Track direct print jobs” option under Easy Print & Scan > Print Tracking, then save your changes. This allows Pocket to track print jobs sent directly to printers, without requiring secure release or mobile app interaction.

  • Tracked print jobs will appear in the Job Log, giving you visibility into who printed what, when, and where—similar to what you had in Views, but with more detail and control.

This setup lets you monitor printing activity passively, without extra steps to print. Standard PaperCut Pocket features like secure print release and eco-friendly reminders are optional and can be left disabled if you only want basic print tracking.

Migrating to PaperCut NG

Switching from PaperCut Views to PaperCut NG means gaining more capability and control. PaperCut NG is a self-hosted (server-based) print management solution. It is free for organizations with less than 5 users. NG must be installed on your own server or computer, giving you advanced features for cost control, waste reduction, and streamlined print operations

Can NG alert me about low toner?

Yes. The steps are a little more technical, but with PaperCut NG you can set up automatic email notifications to let you (or anyone you choose) know when your printer’s toner is running low. You can even customize the alert level, so you get notified at just the right time—like when toner drops to 10% or even 5% remaining, and decide how often you want to be notified (hourly, daily, or on a custom schedule). See: Retrieve toner levels (for supported printers).
