What happens when your PaperCut Hive subscription expires?

This page applies to:

Last updated October 2, 2025

To keep your PaperCut Hive environment running smoothly, you need an active subscription. If your subscription expires, printing will not stop immediately, but it won’t last forever either.

What users will see

We get it — renewals can take time. That’s why we give you a short grace period to keep printing. After the subscription expires, when a user tries to print they’ll see this warning message:

“Printing functionality will be disabled soon because the subscription of this product has not been purchased or renewed. Please contact your company to ensure the subscription is up to date and to address any billing concerns.”

This is a heads-up to let your team know action is needed.

This warning will appear any time a user attempts to release their job from the embedded application:

If users release a job from the mobile application, they will see this message:

What happens if the subscription isn’t renewed?

If the subscription isn’t renewed during the grace period, the ability to print will stop. Users will then see this message:

“Printing denied. Printing functionality is currently disabled because the product subscription has not been paid for or renewed by your company. Please contact your company to address and resolve the issue.”

Here’s what a user will see when attempting to release a print job from the printer:

If users release a job from the mobile application, they will see this message:

At this point, printing is fully blocked until the subscription is renewed.

We’re here to help!

We know things happen. Procurement, tenders, budget reviews — sometimes things take longer than expected.

If you think your subscription might lapse or you’re already seeing the warning, get in touch with your PaperCut Partner as early as possible. The sooner we know, the more we can do to help.

To find the details of your PaperCut Partner, at the top-right of the admin console, select your name and then select Billing and Subscription. The Billing & Subscription page has all the details.

To keep things running smoothly

  • Make sure your subscription is renewed before the expiry date.
  • Set a calendar reminder a month before your renewal deadline.
  • Keep your PaperCut partner (or us) in the loop!
